The key disadvantage is trace explosion. A loop with an if-else statement generates two traces (one for the if branch, one for the else branch). Nested control flow generates exponential numbers of traces. Each trace must be compiled, cached, and connected to other traces through “trace stitching.” The overhead of trace management can overwhelm the benefits of specialization. A Java application compiled AOT (via GraalVM Native Image) produces a single native binary for a specific platform (Linux/x86-64, say).
