Will radix sort replace quicksort in standard libraries? Possibly. C++ std::sort is deeply entrenched and must satisfy worst-case performance guarantees (O(n log n) comparisons). Radix sort’s performance depends on key width, which is not known at compile time. However, libraries like Boost have introduced spreadsort which uses a hybrid approach. In the future, we may see adaptive algorithms that dispatch to radix sort when appropriate.

For practitioners: if you sort millions of integers daily, rewriting your sort to use LSD radix sort with SIMD optimization could yield significant performance gains with moderate implementation effort. The code is less than 50 lines. The payoff is large.
